Are the country of North America .Bermuda consists of a chain of some 180 coral islands and islets lying 1046km (650 miles) off the coast of North Carolina, in the Atlantic Ocean. Its coastlines are characterised by small bays with beaches of fine pale pink coral sand.
The surrounding waters are a vivid blue-green. Inland there is an abundance of subtropical plants and flowers. Hamilton is the colony's capital city, situated at the end of Bermuda's Great Sound on the inner curve of the 'fish hook'. Ferry trips are available round the harbour here. In Hamilton parish, the Bermuda Aquarium and Natural History Museum and Zoo, based at Flatts Village, are worth a visit. At the far eastern end of the chain of islands is the 17th-century town of St George. The town's narrow lanes and historic landmarks appear much as they did more than three centuries ago. St George has many excellent pubs, restaurants and shops.
New York, the 'city that never sleeps', is one of the world's great metropolises, offering visitors everything from the ethnic flavours of Chinatown and Little Italy, to the galleries of SoHo, the cafés of Greenwich Village, the glitz of the Theater District, the shopping on Fifth Avenue and the affluence of Park Lane and the Upper West Side. New York City is made up of five boroughs and is laid out on a grid of avenues and streets. Most tourist sights are found on Manhattan Island, the city's entertainment and business centre.
Here, visitors can see the bright lights and neon signs in the busy Times Square, watch joggers and rollerbladers in Central Park or take a lift to the top of the Empire State Building for amazing views across the Big Apple. No trip to New York would be complete without a visit to the Statue of Liberty – New York's most famous image, given to the US by the French in 1886 and enjoying a fine position in the middle of New York Harbour.
