Named after Alexander the Great, Alexandria speaks volumes of the rich history the ancient civilization, which still continues to baffle archaeologists with its prized mysteries. Alexandria is Egypt's second largest city and serves as the summer retreat for escaping Cairo's heat. Built on the former site of the library of Alexandria, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina is a huge modern library, which is also a research center. There are many other ancient attractions in Alexandria, which include Roman Catacombs, Montaza Palace, and also underwater archaeological sites.
Alexandria too, has a a fair share of entertainment and recreation centered around Midan Saad Zaghlul. The Corniche is also a live-wire of recreation and entertainment with a multitude of casinos and the alluring beach. Getting around Alexandria is another interesting affair, the most eye-catching and fascinating but slow mode of transportation being the tram. It's the unarguably the cheapest mode, but very useful when it comes to sightseeing for tourists. However, taxis and buses are also easily available.
